Growing up in a tiny farming town in nowhere Texas with nothing to do, I would go home after school and listen to the radio for hours. Rock 108 was the area rock station and I was lucky enough to get a good signal from my home.

When it came time to go to college, of course I wanted to do radio, and luckily West Texas A&M, the closest university had an FM broadcast radio program, so going there was a no brainer.

Doing the whole radio thing at WT was a blast and I even co-hosted a heavy metal show on the station, but I fell in love with live sports production. I love the rush of being on the sidelines and a basketball goes flying overhead, or a big tackle is made right in front of you. The sense of action and even a little danger was thrilling, and made even better when you got an amazing shot. I also loved the idea that there was no second take in live events, you either got it right the first time or you missed it. That pressure of being prepared for any scenario is also thrilling.

After college, I cut my teeth for years in local news. I was just sort of drifting through life aimlessly until the Sod Poodles came to town.

When Amarillo announced it was getting a Double-A baseball team with a new stadium for 2019, I knew it was something I had to be a part of.

I joined the seasonal game day staff and for three summers I grinded as the AM production manager at my news station and as the primary technical director for the Soddies. I would wake up at 3 am to go run morning production at the station, go home to sleep for 4 hours, get to the ballpark at 5pm, work until the game was over, go home to sleep for another 4 hours, then get up at 3 am to go back to the station.

Then in 2021 the production manager for the Soddies left, and not thinking much of it at the time I decided to apply for the position. He expressed his confidence in me to do the job well, so when the GM of the organization offered me the job I accepted.

Spending the 2022 season as the Audio & Video Production manager was a period of tremendous growth and learning, many times the hard way. I don’t feel like I’ve ever taken so many L’s in my life than at the beginning of the season, but I recovered from each of them and learned something from it.

My live production skills feel higher than ever, and it’s the same with my creative skills. I definitely know way more about After Effects now and have a strong renewed interest in original video content.

Always looking to create, always looking to add to my skillset, I am always trying to learn as much as possible about this industry.

Ironically it was when I graduated from college that I realized I wasn’t done learning yet.
